Worship Sunday – August 29th, 2010

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

This morning, we concluded the “Pursuing God” series.  Our theme this morning was “Pursuing God through Worship”.  Throughout the Psalms, we read statements that encourage us to “praise him”.  I really like this quote from CS Lewis:  “The Psalmists, in telling everyone to praise God, are doing what all men do when they speak of what they care about”. Think about it.  That’s what we do.  (more…)

Sunday Services – August 22, 2010

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Student Ministries Pastor, Tommy Morelock, spoke this morning on pursuing God through prayer.  Musically we explored that theme with the following songs: “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “He Knows My Name”, “Evermore” and “Friend of God”. Amazing thought that the King of the Universe hears when we call out to him!

I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. Psalm 17:6

Let’s start with the closing song.  Luke Kahawai sang the song “Heaven’s Song”, written and recorded by Phil Wickham (great album, by the way).  Tim’s message this week was on pursuing God through reading his word (the Bible).  The song was great in how it speaks of the promise of heaven throughout the pages of the Bible.  It also speaks of a longing to be there! “Taking Reguests”

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

No, we’re not turning into a lounge act or karaoke!  But, I’d love to have your suggestions on some of your favorite worship songs that we sing at River Oaks. I will do my best to incorporate many of these songs into the Sunday, August 29th services.  I’d love to hear why these certain songs are special to you, and how they give you encouragement.  This will be a great morning of music, communion and a devotional from Tim.  Please leave me some comments and suggestions!

Scott Tilley tore it up this morning with his message “Pursing God Through Community”.  Give it a listen at Riveroaks.org (under media).  When he told me he was using a verbal illustration that involved “weeds”, (more…)

Sunday Services – August 1st, 2010

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

This Sunday, we kicked off a new teaching series, “Pursing God”.  I’m looking forward to a great month of learning how to “chase” after God through the study of His word, prayer and community.  If you missed Tim’s inspiring message (or you want to hear it again), you can listen to it at the River Oaks website (riveroaks.org).  (more…)

Sunday Services – July 25th, 2010

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

This was a very special Sunday.  We had the opportunity to hear from our Student Ministries Pastor, Tommy Morelock, and several students who served on the Mexico mission trip.  Through video and testimonies, they shared their experiences and how it challenged them personally. Thanks to Tommy and all his leaders for coordinating such a great trip. (more…)

Selling Cars with Ashley Cleveland

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

I’ve recently purchased a new computer for my recording studio.  Of course when you do this, you’ve got to update software and jump through a million different technical hoops (which I did!).  A lot of my recent vacation time was spent staring (with tears in my eyes) at software company’s websites and on the phone with tech’s from Apple, Digidesgn and Sweetwater. I’m glad to say that (more…)

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

(from Isaiah 40)

“Morning by morning, new mercies I see”

Our worship theme this morning continued with our theme from last week:  God’s faithfulness.  Musically, we began with the song “Famous One”, reminding us  “the heaven’s declare His glory and His name is great throughout earth”.  How’s that for a reputation! (more…)
