Great to have our string section section (& accordion) with us this morning! As we gather, we seek a true vision of the awesomeness of God,.. to hear His voice,.. a revelation. We began our worship with the hymn “Breathe on Me Breath of God”, followed by “Open the Eyes of My Heart”. Next, we acknowledge Who is great throughout the world and universe (Chris Tomlin’s song “Famous One”). We continue with “Awake My Soul” (Chris Tomlin) and a new song for us “Revelation Song”, from the new Passion project “Let the Future Begin”.

We closed the service with John Stockstill’s “Let the Church Rise” (lyrics: May we be light in the darkness, let the church rise).

If you’re scratching your head thinking, what was that song the band opened with, scratch no more. It was the Average White Band’s classic “Pick Up the Pieces”, featuring our horn section. Fun little “band jam”.

What a great morning. Around 40 children are being dedicated. So cool when the body of River Oaks can surround these parents with support, love and prayers. What an awesome testimony from these parents!

Together, we will celebrate what Christ is to us! We begin with two Isreal and New Breed songs “You Are Good” and “Jesus the Same”. We follow with Brenton Brown’s “Jesus You Are Worthy” and the hymn “I Stand Amazed”.

Looking forward to a great weekend! We’ll be singing two new worship songs that we introduced on Easter, “Jesus the Same” & “Jesus at the Center”. Both songs are from Israel & New Breed. I’m enjoying these songs musically because there not the same sound as most of the current worship stuff (which I like, too). Other songs we will be singing are “Sing to the King”, “My Glorious” and Phil Wickham’s “All I Am”.

It was great to be back with the River Oaks Community this morning after a couple of weeks of vacation. This morning we made use of a 12 string electric that we recently purchased! It’s not a Rickenbacker like Roger McQuins, but it sounds close!

During worship, we sang a new arrangement of Paul Baloche’s “Because of Your Love”, followed by “Hallelujah” by Seven Stories Up. We continued with “Awake My Soul (Chris Tomlin) and “All I Am” (Phil Wickham). We closed the service with a new “bongo” arrangement of “Holy Spirit”, originally recorded by Among Thorns.

Sunday Services: Palm Sunday, March 24th, 2013

Hebrews 9:14: How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

We had a powerful time of reflection, confession and celebration on this Palm Sunday. We began our morning by singing together Brenton Brown’s “Hosanna”. We continued with “Hallelujah” and “Let It Rise”. Dustin Kahr and Greg Tipton lead us in a series of scriptures: Psalm 51, Psalm 103:8-14, 2 Cor. 5:20-6:2 & Hebrews 9:14-16. To affirm these scriptures, we sang “Jesus Paid It All”. Kelly McDowell then led us in the Litany of Repentance (which is something we do at our Ash Wednesday services, but fit’s perfectly as we prepare for this week leading up to Easter). After an extended time of silent reflection, we moved to the communion tables.

After Tim challenged us to read from the book of John this week (click his blog button at the top of this page), together we sang “In Christ Alone”. This was a great time of preparation for this coming week!

I look forward to seeing you on Easter. We are going to celebrate!

Weekend Services: March 16 & 17

As the community of River Oaks, we celebrate this day, giving glory to the One who created it!

The first song we will sing together is “We Sing Glory” (Jimmy Fed), followed by “Come and Worship” (Word Music), the hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King” and “Taken By Love (Kutless). Our worship time closes by declaring “God You Reign” (Lincoln Brewster).

We continue with our current series “Break Free”. As we gather together, our two worship leaders, Diana Montiel and Brooke Miller, will lead us in the songs “How Can I Keep From Singing” (Chris Tomlin), “Alive In Us” (Hillsong), “God Is Able” (Hillsong) and “Jesus Son of God” (Chris Tomlin). Brooke and the band close our services with the song “All My Hope” (Hillsong).
